Andy cut his hair.

And because I have a tendancy to over-react to these things...

Andy was nervous as he knocked at Roger’s door. He’d been in Houston two days and Roger had been here four without a word spoken between them, either face to face or over the phone.

He was starting to think he’d made a huge mistake which made him even more depressed – there was no going back now.

Footsteps on the other side of the door; Andy straightened, resettling his hat and tugging his t-shirt straight. He knew Roger was glaring at him through the door's spy-hole – the Swiss never opened his door without looking first, a cautious habit which Andy used to tease him for mercilessly. The American forced his expression into a pathetic smile and tried to sound apologetic.

“Roger? Please let me in. I can explain…”

Something that sounded suspiciously like a disgusted 'hah!' was his only answer. Andy bit his tongue on an irritated reply and changed his expression instead, sticking out his lower lip and staring sadly at the floor. Roger had never been able to resist him pouting. He’d once said it made him feel like he’d kicked a defenceless puppy.

Please, please let him let me in-

It took a few torturous seconds of waiting but the door swung open reluctantly and Andy pushed in before Roger could change his mind. The Swiss was already walking away across the room, stubborn anger in every step. Andy followed.

“Roger please listen; I know I promised but I couldn’t help it. It wasn’t my fault-“

“Oh, I suppose someone held you down and forced you?” Biting sarcasm dripped from Roger’s tone, enough to make Andy flinch. “You promised you wouldn’t do it again Andy-“

“I know and I’m sorry." Andy caught up with him in the middle of the room, reaching out to rest a hand on Roger’s shoulder. The Swiss stiffened under the touch but Andy didn’t let go. “Roger you have to understand-“

“I begged you. I told you I’d never speak to you again if you did it.” Roger wasn’t sarcastic anymore; if anything he sounded tired, perhaps a little sad as he repeated himself. “You promised me Andy.”

“I know.” Andy rubbed a hand tiredly over his eyes. “I’m sorry Roger. I really am.”

A moment of silence while they stood motionless then Roger turned, looking up at him with dark, resigned eyes. “Let me see.”

“You don’t have to, I thought we could go to dinner-“

“Andy!”

“Okay!” Andy took a deep breath and reached up, pulling off his hat. The hair he’d had shaved short only the week before was still just a spiky fuzz, nothing like the long, fluffy blondness Roger had adored. The Swiss shut his eyes briefly as if just looking hurt.

“You really had to?” he asked softly, without opening his eyes. Andy ran a hand over his hair and stared down at the floor miserably, avoiding looking at Roger’s pained expression.

“It was driving me crazy Roj. I’m really sorry.”

The Swiss took a deep breath and opened his eyes. Andy looked for annoyance and saw only reluctant acceptance in his face. “Will you at least consider growing it for me again?”

Relieved, Andy nodded and slid his arms around Roger’s waist pulling him into a kiss. Roger let himself be dragged in without protest, although he didn’t smile. Andy broke the kiss and rested his forehead against the Swiss’, watching the dark eyes that were out of focus this close.

“If you want me to grow it again Roj, I swear I will,” he said softly and meant every word. Roger heaved a deep sigh.

“Then I suppose I can forgive you. But,” he added as Andy’s face lit up with relief, “You owe me dinner-”

“Absolutely.” Andy leaned in for a second kiss but Roger moved out of range.

“-And there’s one more thing,” he said warningly. Giddy with relief and happiness, Andy grinned.

“Whatever it is, the answer’s yes.”

“Danke.” Roger’s lips twitched; not quite a smile but close. “Would you please put your damn hat back on?”

If I do this Philosophy essay before Wednesday it'll be a miracle.

Hell if I get out my pajamas this afternoon it'll be a miracle.
