December 16th: 03 - a song that makes you happy


There was only ever really one contender for this. I considered Tim Minchin's Canvas Bags or Bright Eyes' First Day of My Life (that is possibly my favourite music video ever; you must watch it) but, really, no song makes me more inexplicably happy than Boston's 'More Than A Feeling'. You can listen to the whole song here.

BUT. You don't want to watch it on that boring vid. You want to watch it on the Barclays ad where the guy rides the rollercoaster to work, don't you? Yeah, me too:

While looking this song up on Youtube, I also came across this marvellous Nirvana clip that makes it obvious how similar 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' is to 'More Than A Feeling' (which I didn't notice and now will never be able to notice anything else. And I like Nirvana; there will be more Nirvana songs in this meme).

I'm sorry. I do love the song. But working for Barclays has forever destroyed the amazingness of that advert and therefore, the song for me. It kind of really sucks.

Edit: Also, I love that you are not telling ANYONE what you are writing. It's very entertaining for me!

I did think as I was posting it "Holly will not be amused with me for posting this advert." But I LOVE IT SO MUCH. THE WORLD WOULD BE SO AWESOME IF THAT ROLLERCOASTER EXISTED. :D I just had to. You need to become a tennis photographer so you can appreciate it again.

I WAS NOT AMUSED. At all. Stupid work, ruining adverts for me left, right and centre! Like the Barclaycard Waterslide ad too. Sigh. IT NEEDS TO EXIST THOUGH. A rollercoaster through the streets of NYC is like my two favourite things topped with ice cream and then given to me on a plate. I agree with that life plan, because it would be awesome.

My 26 words is literally one sentence. It's not even worth it... but 214 I WILL TAKE HAPPILY.

It does need to exist. If we ever take over the world, we are immediately putting it at the top of our agenda. Moral all over the world will go waaaaay up!

Right now though, it makes him unspeakably glad that Andy's here to tell him that he's being an idiot. Not that he doesn't have plenty of people to do that – it seems to be becoming a theme this week, actually – but Andy's one of the very few he trusts to be honest. He smiles back, until he realises they're standing practically beneath the London Eye smiling stupidly at each other and he cracks up into laughter, allowing his head to rest on Andy's shoulder as the Brit demands “What?!”

“If this was a movie,” Novak says into a mouthful of Andy's coat, because they're just two more people in the crowd today and he can let himself have this, leaning into Andy in public, “There would be some music now, with violins perhaps. And then you would kiss me.”

Andy goes still, suddenly tense against Novak as he must realise what they look like. Novak is already wishing he hadn't said anything but it's too late, Andy shifting a safe couple of inches away although he at least has the grace to look apologetic when Novak lifts his head. “Sorry,” the Brit mutters, even as he's looking searchingly across the crowds for any cameras (plenty, when Novak glances around, but all pointed at street performers or the view). “Not in London, Novak.”

Not when every other person here could recognise me he means, and Novak knows he's right, that the last thing they need is to get caught in a too-affectionate moment that can't be explained away as 'friendship'. Especially in London, where the press are unrelentingly vicious if Andy so much as thinks the wrong thing and, in the eyes of the journalists, that would definitely include screwing – literally -his rivals.

Still. He's had the kind of week where it'd be nice to be able to lean into his boyfriend without worrying about causing a paparazzi frenzy, his cheerful front decidedly tattered around the edges after Djordje catching them, after the humiliating match against Rafa; he doesn't think it's asking too much of the universe to let them get away with this one.

AHAHAHA, I KNEW HE WAS GOING TO MAKE THAT COMMENT TOO BUT I WAS TOO TIRED TO WRITE IT LAST NIGHT. FOR SOMETHING THAT STARTED AS NOVAK/DJORDJE, THERE IS AN AMAZING AMOUNT OF NOVAK/MURRAY IN IT. AM TOTALLY BLAMING YOU.

At least it wasn't one of the moments of Epic Wrong. ^_^ Of which there haven't been too many so far but I just need to get this Andy/Novak bit out the way and then the Epic Wrong kicks up into Epic Wrong of Wrongeryness with Sprinkles of Wrong. I don't know why I wanted to add "Yay!" to that because, well. Wrong!
